Trooper Leveling Guide – 5 SWTOR Leveling Tips

It’s all about the awesome blaster cannon! In Star Wars the Old Republic troopers , commando one, are the only class that can equip these heavy artillery pieces and shoot the hell of their foes. I love shooting big guns so the trooper was the obvious choice for me and it proved to a fun class to play. to be honest I had some help from this guide that made everything easier and more clear.

Here are some tips you may find useful:

1. Troopers are the best aoe classes in the game so be sure to use their aoe abilities whenever on cooldown. While questing you will find lots of 4-5 mob groups and abilities like Mortar Volley, Plasma Grande and Pulse cannon make short work of them.

2. Troopers unlike many other classes have the luck of having companions(Aric Jorgan and Elara Dorne) that have the same gear and weapons as you have. So you can hand down any gear that you get upgrades to them allowing you to collect more tokens. I would especially recommend you take Tatooine tokens for an amazing Blaster Cannon with an unique sound.

3. If you don’t like the dialogue movies you can totally switch them off in your preferences menu. This is particularly useful if you have already seen the dialogues in the case of leveling alts.

4. Although you have heal abilities, I  have found on several occasions that medpacks have saved my life so always carry some. Also stims with Aim will  make your trooper more powerful so you will level faster.

5. Also in the preferences menu you have an option to auto loot and join loot from several corpses. This will drastically save the amount of time you loot corpses so do turn them on.

These tips should make leveling your trooper easier but there are tons of other tips that I have found helpful. They are all neatly packed in SWTOR Saviour Leveling Guide a great guide with tons of tips and tricks tha you will find very usefull. And if you don’t you can just return it no questions asked.

SWTOR Trooper Leveling Build

In Star Wars The Old Republic the choice of which advanced class you want to play is an important one and defines your style of gameplay for the rest of your levels. The Trooper has the choice of fulfilling all the three major roles and once you choose you can’t go back…for now.

With the Trooper you will at level 10 get to choose between the Vanguard advanced class or the Commando advanced class. With the Vanguard you can play as a tank or as dps with the Commando you will be able to play as a healer or as dps.

So what do you choose? I’ve found that the best leveling advanced class was the commando dps build. With you doing tons of damage and having Elara as you healer companion you will have very little downtime and will continue to kill mobs without every stopping.

Here’s the leveling build at level 50.

This leveling build maximizes your dps and focuses on using your Grav Round as your main shot and filling in with full auto, concussive round and demolition round. As with all classes try to keep your ammo above 25-50 % as it will regenerate faster and reduce your downtime.

Best Trooper Leveling Companion

Playing the Trooper in fun solo but it gets way faster when you get your first companion, Aric Jorgan, on your starting planet Coruscant. You get him at the end of your personal story around level 9. You will get 3 more companions by level 24 which is earlier than other classes I’ve played. So you have nearly a whole squadron from which to choose from and utilize in different crew skills missions.

Check out the full list of trooper companions:

Aric Jorgan – Ranged Damage Dealer, +10 Armstech Efficiency, +2 Diplomacy Critical

Elara Dorne – Ranged Healer, +10 Biochem Efficiency, +10 Bioanalysis Efficiency

M1 4X – Ranged Tank, +5 Cybertech, +5 Critical Scavenging

Tanno Vik – Melee Tank, +5 Critical Armormech, +1 Critical Underworld Trading

Yuun – Melee Damage, +10 Research, +10 Slicing

Choosing with wich one to play is mainly affected by your play style. I found that the best companion for leveling was Elara Dorne. While she is not much of a dpser she would keep me at full health and I could kill foes without stopping making my downtime close to zero. In Hard boss fights you might want to switch to M1 4X who is also a great companion and will fulfill his tanking role perfectly. Just make sure you make him attack first(ctr+1)
